The Formation of Northwestern Mutual - St. Louis Northwestern Mutual - St. Louis serves the greater St. Louis, Columbia, and Southwestern Illinois areas. The organization's Network office is located in Downtown St. Louis with district offices in Downtown St. Louis, MO, "Northwestern Mutual - St. Louis" (housed within the Network Office), Columbia, MO, "Northwestern Mutual - Columbia", and Glen Carbon, IL, "Northwestern Mutual - Edwardsville". The Network office was actually founded in 1905 by Northwestern Mutual to serve the greater St. Louis area. John Qualy became a full-time Financial Representative in 1971 working in Columbia, MO. His father had been a Managing Partner for Northwestern Mutual and had moved the family to St. Louis in 1969. John left Columbia in 1986 and moved his family to St. Louis. He became Managing Partner with the organization in 1990. Since 1990, Northwestern Mutual - St. Louis has grown from some 46 associates to over 300 associates today. In 2011, Gerard Hempstead succeeded John Qualy as Managing Partner. Gerard Hempstead, CLU, ChFC, CFP - Professional Accomplishments Gerard Hempstead passed the Certified Public Accountants exam upon graduating from Indiana University's School of Business in 1993. Hempstead spent two years with KPMG in their insurance and financial services practice before starting his career with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in 1995. Hempstead obtained his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1998, Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designation in 1999, Competent Toastmaster (CTM) designation in 2000 and Certified Financial Planner™(CFP®) certification in 2002. Hempstead consistently qualifies for Northwestern Mutual's top 200 Financial Representatives in the country and has been awarded both the "30 under 30" and the "40 under 40" award from the St. Louis Business Journal recognizing the top executives in St. Louis.
Gerard Hempstead had been the Managing Director in the Clayton District Network Office since November 2007 before becoming the Managing Partner in St. Louis in 2011. Hempstead is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the
Saint Louis University High School's Board of Trustees, and is on the Finance Committee of Incarnate Word Parish.
